WindTamer Corporation Announces Initiation of Certification Process for Its 8.0GT Wind Turbine With Intertek

WindTamer Corporation (“WindTamer” or “The Company”) (OTC Bulletin Board: WNDT) announced today that its 8.0GT wind turbine has been submitted to Intertek (LSE: ITRK) for testing, inspection and certification. Intertek, a global third-party testing company, tests wind turbines and provides data to determine product eligibility for incentive programs and for verification of compliance with national and international wind turbine safety and efficiency requirements.

Intertek will test WindTamer’s patented 8.0GT wind turbine for compliance with the American Wind Energy Association (“AWEA”) 9.1 Small Wind Turbine Safety and Performance Standards as well as to the International Electrotechnical Commission’s (“IEC”) 61400 series of standards. The IEC is the world’s leading organization that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies. The scope of the testing and evaluation by Intertek will include design evaluation; load verification; duration testing; safety and function testing; acoustic testing; power performance testing; and post-test structural evaluation and inspection.

Mark Matthews, WindTamer’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said that “Certification by a recognized, independent test facility will provide validation of our technology and will demonstrate our best-in-class performance. By meeting the requirements of not only AWEA but also IEC, WindTamer’s reach and credibility into domestic and international markets will be greatly enhanced. In addition, certification by Intertek will allow our customers to take advantage of the available tax credits and other funding incentives from government agencies, such as the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (“NYSERDA”). These incentives will greatly enhance the value proposition and return on investment for our customers.”

Adeeb Saba, WindTamer’s Vice President of Operations, said that “Initiating the certification process demonstrates that WindTamer has made the transition from a development stage company to a commercially competitive company. The AWEA and IEC standards provide a form by which an effective evaluation can be made for performance and safety. The certification of our 8.0GT turbine at the Intertek test site will provide additional validation of our ability and commitment to provide a viable small wind turbine that customers can be confident in selecting.”

Intertek will test the WindTamer turbine at its center in Otisco, New York. The Otisco test center, together with Intertek’s nearby Cortland, New York lab, is the only wind testing facility in North America that is operated by an Occupational Safety & Health Administration recognized National Recognized Testing Laboratory that is capable of providing small wind turbine system and electrical component certification.
