Seaway Heavy Lifting has successfully completed the installation of the transformer topside as the last big milestone for the Meerwind project.

Seaway Heavy Lifting has completed the installation of the 3,300 mT transformer topside of the WindMW Meerwind project. The Meerwind offshore wind farm has a capacity of 288 MW and consists of 80 wind turbines of 3.6 MW each. Seaway Heavy Lifting performed the Transport & Installation of transition pieces, the transformer topside as well as the jacket for WindMW. The Meerwind project started for Seaway Heavy Lifting in September 2011 and the offshore installation part of the transition pieces and the jacket took place in the second quarter of 2013.

WindMW’s General Manager Jens Assheuer says: “It was a pleasure working together and bringing this installation to its success – amazing to see what can be done with professional people and equipment cooperating perfectly in a safe mode. It was impressive to see how fast the topside could be installed and I would like to express my thanks to all Seaway Heavy Lifting staff members.

” Seaway Heavy Lifting’s COO Peter de Bree says: “The cooperation with WindMW has been very constructive and successful. This is our first job in the North Sea after having been out of the North Sea for 6 months. Thanks to the weather and very good preparations by both WindMW and the Seaway Heavy Lifting team, we had the topside installed within 24 hours after arriving back in the North Sea.”
