Navigant Research Names Enel X and Nuvve the Leading Electric Mobility Service Providers

To compete with market leaders, trailing companies must broaden their product portfolios and expand their geographic footprints

Oct. 29, 2019 – Boulder, Colo. – A new Leaderboard Report from Navigant Research examines the strategy and execution of 10 companies offering advanced electric vehicle (EV) charger management technologies in the vehicle grid integration (VGI) industry, with Enel X and Nuvve ranked as the leading market players.
The continued growth of the plug-in EV (PEV) industry is pushing development of VGI, which enables direct control of PEV charging, and in some cases, discharging. This capability has many potential uses, the most attractive being the ability to aggregate PEVs in grid service markets, protect distribution grids, integrate renewables generation, and decrease PEV owner energy costs. The number of companies in this space is growing as advanced VGI solutions progress from prototype to commercial scale. Click to tweet: According to a new Leaderboard report from @NavigantRSRCH, Enel X and Nuvve are the leading electric mobility service providers in the VGI space.
“Enel X has a wide breadth of VGI capabilities and technology offerings, presence in the major markets, and a lengthy track record in advanced VGI demonstrations,” says Scott Shepard, senior research analyst with Navigant Research. “Nuvve, meanwhile, is a standout in bidirectional charging (V2G) demonstration participation that can trace its history back to the original conceptualization of V2G. The company has been upgrading its V2G capabilities with the introduction of a broad range of bidirectional chargers, putting it in position to provide a full turnkey V2G solution.”
According to the report, these companies are currently in the strongest position to capture the market opportunity emerging in VGI. The report identifies a number of up and coming competitors that promise to challenge the leaders with innovative approaches to VGI. To compete with the leaders, these challengers must focus on broadening their product portfolios and expanding their geographic footprints.
The report, Navigant Research Leaderboard: Vehicle Grid Integration Solutions Providers, examines the strategy and execution of 10 providers of advanced VGI solutions. These suppliers are rated on 10 criteria: vision; go-to-market strategy; partners; technology; geographic reach; sales, marketing, and distribution; industry recognition, diversification, product portfolio, and staying power. Using Navigant Research’s proprietary Leaderboard methodology, vendors are profiled, rated, and ranked with the goal of providing industry participants with an objective assessment of these companies’ relative strengths and weaknesses in the current commercial charging services market.
