From the traditional to a futuristic digital business

Morten Huseby, CEO at Wirescan, shares his enthusiasm for their new digital service with PES. The company is set to launch its Wirescan Digital platform and Wirescan GO!. These are exciting times and the beginning of a new era for this dynamic, forward thinking company.

PES: Hi Morten, welcome to PES Wind magazine, it’s good to talk to you. Would you like to begin by giving us an overview of Wirescan and how it has changed over the past 12 months?

Morten Huseby: Wirescan is changing from a traditional ‘box-pushing’ to a digital service-based business model, with the capability of collecting test data from de-energized and energized cables.

Wirescan can now offer condition assessment and monitoring services throughout the whole cable lifetime. The ability to gather and structure huge amounts of data is opening a whole new world of possibilities within predictive analysis.

Look at the Tesla autopilot accident prediction module. By ‘replacing’ the human mind as the decision maker, Tesla’s autopilot gathers huge amounts of real time data, which is processed to keep the vehicle not only on the road at the right speed, but also to assess complex traffic situations to automatically predict and avoid any unwanted events. This is what Wirescan is doing for the cable industry.

We believe that the industry transition into the digital domain is the best way to ensure our customers extract maximum value from our products and services. We translate data into valuable information and have established a new industry standard enabling the transition from ‘fail and fix’ to ‘predict and prevent’.

PES: We know there are further changes coming, are you able to share any of the details with us?

MH: Progressive movement and innovation are a part of our DNA. We aim to make the seemingly impossible a reality, and every step we take today has this ambition. For instance, we don’t tell the operators to turn their back on what they have traditionally been doing in terms of cable testing and condition assessment. Technologies and test systems, such as TDR, IR, CR, HV, OTDR, DTS and DAS are all welcome in our Wirescan Digital platform, together with the LIRA data.

Once we have centralized, structured, correlated, and synchronized the available data, we turn it into important information based on big data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence. We believe these technologies are the cornerstones to the future of cable condition assessment and monitoring.
