A landmark year
2012 is turning out to be a year that has featured a number of significant offshore wind milestones after Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Director Tommy Beaudreau announced the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the issuance of leases for site assessment activities for the Wind Energy Areas off the states of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. BOEM has also published Calls for Information and Nominations for offshore wind energy development off Maryland, Massachusetts and Virginia to solicit additional interest from developers and announced the finalization of the form that it will use to issue offshore wind energy leases. Finally, the U.S. Department of Energy issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for Offshore Wind Advanced Technology Demonstration Projects as part of a six-year, $180 million initiative.
