New opportunities: why the UK market for battery storage systems is relevant to us

The battery market has gained added momentum. There is now a global awareness that renewable energies can only be successfully expanded in combination with efficient energy storage. The greatest efficiency – and profit margin – is currently offered by battery storage systems, as this technology is already extremely advanced.

At Tesvolt we specialise in high-performance Lithium-Ion storage systems for use in industry and commerce. Lithium batteries are safe and especially low maintenance, and can store electricity and supply it again extremely quickly. We have a wide range of products with storage systems for every application, offering capacities from 4.8 kWh to several Megawatt-hours.

Countless applications

The need for battery storage systems is growing worldwide, at the same rate as the expansion of renewable energies, especially photovoltaic energy. While yields from renewable energy sources fluctuate over the course of a day and a year, for example because a PV installation does not absorb solar energy overnight or during winter, a storage system can balance supply and consumption.

A battery can keep the energy stored during the day for times when demand is higher, thus helping the user to increase their self-consumption and save costs, or become less dependent on energy companies. But this is far from the only possible use; battery storage systems are extremely versatile. As well as using time shifting to increase self-consumption from PV installations, they can also help to keep power consumption constant and avoid expensive peak loads via peak shaving.

Other possibilities include use in back-up power solutions and stand-alone grids. Here in the UK, our energy storage systems have become a valuable option to avoid Triad, Red Zone, or CM levies.

These capacities make battery storage systems well suited to applications around the world – both in developed industrial nations and far from public grids, for example in the mountains or the desert. And in the last year, the UK in particular has seen developments that make this an especially exciting market for us.
