New DEK Business Unit Manager to drive solar systems innovation and development


Longstanding DEK Solar team member, Martin Hewson, has been appointed as the company’s new Business Unit Manager -Alternative Energy Systems. The new role has been created in response to a growing demand for the PV specialist’s technologies and will be charged with developing technologies and processes to enhance current competitive differentiators even further, including reduced lead times, product quality and customer service. In his new role, Martin will assume day-to-day management responsibilities for all operational processes, in addition to driving continuous improvement initiatives within the DEK Solar business. Acting as a valuable interface between the company’s Sales and Engineering teams, Martin will also extend DEK Solar’s commitment to innovation by ensuring that customer and market demands form the basis of ongoing product development. In line with the company’s ‘Expect More’ philosophy, Martin will also be championing Lean strategies to further enhance the company’s ability to optimise lead times and ensure customers are running to full production levels on site, following platform delivery, as quickly as possible.

Commenting on his new role at DEK Solar, Martin Hewson explains: “Here at DEK, we’re continuously targeting improvements – from the innovations we deliver through to the service with which we deliver them. Lean is very important within this and part of my new role is to ensure we’re pioneering lean principles throughout the business. I’m delighted to be embarking on a new challenge at DEK Solar, as part of a highly committed team focused on helping our customers achieve more. The recent launch of our Eclipse platform, a true industry first, has generated substantial interest industry-wide. In my new role, I’ll be helping to ensure we not only meet this surging demand – but exceed it!”

Centered on a breakthrough modular design concept, the new Eclipse photovoltaic metallization platform incorporates a series of field retrofittable process modules that enable manufacturers to easily scale production to 1200, 2400 or 3600 wph. Primary process modules such as the print head and loader, incorporate master controls, meaning that additional process modules operate as secondary “slaves” to remove the cost of further control units. Solar metallization performance can be easily upgraded in the field for manufacturers who forsee a need to extend production. Spacer process modules can be deployed at initial installation, then exchanged for additional print capacity as and when required.
