Heading The Field In Competitive Orienteering And In Sustainable Building Simone Niggli Luder Builds An Energyplus House With The Megaslate Solar Roof System From 3s Photovoltaics

The multiple world champion in orienteering racing has fulfilled her dream of a modern home. As from now, Simone Niggli-Luder’s family will be living in a home which conserves resources and is energy efficient. The EnergyPlus house was built to comply with the Minergie standard and produces more energy than it uses. The MegaSlate® solar roof system from 3S Photovoltaics generates around 30% more energy than the family needs for heating and electricity. On 28 October Cantonal Councillor Barbara Egger-Jenzer presented the Minergie certificate to the family at their new home in Münsingen near Berne.

Careful use of land and resources and an energy-saving construction method were the guiding principles of the architects, dadarchitekten, in Berne, who turned the Niggli-Luder family’s dream into reality. The result is a modern family home certified according to the Minergie standard, built of local wood and other natural, sustainable materials. It reflects the lifestyle of the world champion’s family in harmony with nature and successfully combines comfort, aesthetics and eco-consciousness.

Building shell and electricity production in one
The MegaSlate® solar roof system from 3S Swiss Solar Systems AG in Lyss ensures optimum output of the solar panel system installed on the available roofage. With around 7,500 kWh output the 59 solar laminates provide more than the total energy needed for electricity, heating powered by a heat pump, and hot water. Any electricity not consumed by the world champion’s family is fed into the grid: up to 30 % of eco-friendly energy from the sun. The MegaSlate® laminates replace the protective layer used in traditional flat roofs (normally gravel or plants).

MegaSlate® solar roof system
The MegaSlate® solar roof system from 3S Swiss Solar Systems AG is a cutting edge concept with a stylish architectural design for use in new buildings and roof renovation projects. It offers all the advantages of a conventional roof and, as a fully integrated or partially integrated solution, replaces conventional roof coverings. This aesthetic synthesis of a robust, weather-resistant building shell and an efficient, eco-friendly electricity generation system can be supplemented with a warm water system. MegaSlate® solar panels have TÜV certification and undergo stringent testing for wind and snow loads, impermeability to rain, resistance to hail as well as fire safety.

The quality solar systems from 3S Swiss Solar Systems for integration in buildings are now being marketed under the brand name 3S Photovoltaics.
