The heavy weights

Jan Willem van der Graaf, CEO at Seaway Heavy Lifting, talks to PES about the decrease in oil & gas projects, due to the slump in oil prices and the increase in interest in contracts for renewables.

PES: Welcome to PES, thanks for talking to us. You are active in several industries, is wind energy a growing business area for you? How are you capitalising on this growth?

Jan Willem van der Graaf: Over the past years Seaway Heavy Lifting has become increasingly active in the renewables industry, installing many hundreds of WTG foundations and tens of substations. Of course we also have 25 successful years in installation for the oil & gas industry to draw on.

In this industry IOCs are more reluctant to invest in new oil fields or make other investments because of the substantial drop in oil prices. Resulting in fewer oil & gas projects than there used to be. For a good number of years, oil & gas projects outnumbered wind projects and now it is the other way around.

Our strategy remains the same and we will continue to offer our services to both the oil & gas and renewables industry.
