Lowering LCOE with 1500V DC

While several new power plant installations still focus on old DC technology, Jurchen Technology enhances its BoS product lines. Their unwavering vision is to establish Solar PV Power as our international basic power supply. Michael Jurchen, CEO and founder of Jurchen Technology, explains why to PES.

PES: Welcome back to PES Solar/PV magazine. It’s great to talk with you again. For the benefit of our new readers would you like to tell us about your company and explain how you currently serve the solar/PV sector?

Michael Jurchen: Thank you.  As an experienced PV BoS (Balance of System) supplier Jurchen technology offers a wide range of innovative components for rooftop PV systems and large-scale solar PV power plants. Our product solutions, from low-loss DC cabling to cost-efficient substructures for solar power plants, are developed in-house to reach best-in-class quality and reliability. For all standardised BoS products we consider every PV power plant as an individual chain of system components. So it’s important for us to be involved as soon as possible in the project, to engineer an optimal DC configuration. The high standardisation of our manufacturing and quality management give our products the necessary safety to generate solar electricity, which will be reliable for decades.

PES: Are you still seeing market growth in BoS?

MJ: The manufacturing costs for PV panels and inverters have decreased enormously in last years. Technologies have been enhanced to deliver higher efficiencies. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been noticed in BoS. Far from it – we are hearing of newly constructed solar PV parks, which are based on system designs that are ten years old. Thus, even now, power plant performance, investment and operational costs are the most important variables in reaching the lowest cost of energy (LCOE). This is the only way modern photovoltaics can replace conventional energy resources as our basic power supply. This goal can only be achieved with new and re-developed components in the whole PV power generation chain.
