Northumberland-based offshore technology supplier Osbit is celebrating a decade in business. Osbit began operations at its Riding Mill headquarters 10 years ago with three owner-directors, now four, all engineers and soon established a powerful engineering team. Over the course of 10 years, Osbit has delivered a number of offshore technology firsts to support its global customer-base. This includes world-first well intervention technology for safer operations, cable laying technology which tripled operational performance, and advanced subsea trenching vehicle technology. It has also recently developed an innovative seabed mineral collector, in partnership with Enshore Subsea. OmniStar and ThermoStar GSD 350 are compact, portable benchtop analyzers for analyzing gases at atmospheric pressure. NKT has been awarded its largest order ever of over EUR 1bn by TenneT and TransnetBW. The contracts comprise the supply and installation of a 525 kV XLPE high-voltage DC (direct current) onshore cable system with a route length of approx. 750 km for the German SuedLink corridor. The SuedLink corridor comprises two power cable systems, and NKT has been awarded the 2GW cable link which will be the world’s largest and longest high-voltage DC underground interconnector. The SuedLink line starts in Northern Germany where it connects to power from offshore wind farms and to the Nordlink interconnector, which brings hydro power from Norway to Germany via a 525 kV high-voltage DC offshore power cable system also provided by NKT. In May this year, NKT announced to also deliver the majority of the 525 kV XLPE power cable system for the SuedOstLink corridor in Eastern Germany. Edinburgh: 29 June 2020: Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) and Enso Energy have announced they are working together in a UK solar development joint venture. The partnership was established with the aim to create one of the UK’s largest subsidy-free solar and battery storage portfolios, which will deliver clean energy to communities and businesses across the country. GIG and Enso have identified an ambitious pipeline of projects which are currently in development and represent an initial 1 GW of capacity. Initial projects are grid secured and are being submitted for planning approval. This includes projects across England and Wales, where the team are currently conducting virtual community consultations to ensure that the views of these local communities can be taken into consideration during this period of required social distancing. First concrete tower factory in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain Production facility creates 300 direct new jobs Hamburg, 26 June 2020. A new green start to the economy creates jobs. The latest example is the Nordex Group's concrete tower factory in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. In Motilla del Palancar the wind turbine manufacturer is now starting the construction work for a factory for the production of concrete towers for its turbines on a 12-hectare site. Following completion in August the Nordex Group will offer jobs for around 300 employees while creating a further 200 jobs with local component suppliers. "We are pleased to be setting up a further industrial nucleus in Motilla del Palancar with our tower-manufacturing facility. This plant will also mean additional employment opportunities in Castilla-La Mancha as a business centre. All in all several hundred people will be employed at the site. New statistics released today (June 25) by the UK Government show renewable electricity generation in Scotland increased by 28% compared to the same quarter in 2019. Generation from onshore wind turbines, the cheapest form of new electricity generation, increased by 25% to 7,385 GWh, and record rainfall boosted hydro generation by 38% to 2,264 GWh. Offshore wind saw the highest increase, with generation more than doubling (54%) to 1,262 GWh of electricity, enough to power more than 84,000 homes for a year. There is now 11.9GW of installed renewable energy capacity in Scotland, up 4% year-on-year.
