New 3.7M144 and 3.6M118 machines offer higher yields and increased performance Hamburg: Senvion, a leading global manufacturer of wind turbines, today launches its new products, the 3.7M144 EBC and 3.6M118 NES turbines, at the HUSUM Wind fair in Germany. The turbines are especially well suited for low and high wind sites respectively and are available for sale immediately. Both turbines feature the Senvion Next Electrical System (NES) to meet the grid requirements in all Senvion target markets. The 3.6M118 features an optimized rotor design for very high yields and is mounted on a steel tower with a standard hub height of 91 meters, with project specific hub heights also available. The 3.7M144 is designed to be one of the quietest systems in its class with its strengths at low wind speeds due to aerodynamically optimized blades and serrations at the blade edges. With a nominal output of 3,700 kilowatts and a larger rotor, the new turbine leads to a yearly energy yield 6.7% higher than its sister models. DONG Energy has been awarded a contract to build its Hornsea Project Two offshore wind farm, at the lowest-ever price for offshore wind in the UK. At 57.50 £/MWh, the strike price for the Contract for Difference (CfD) is 50% lower than the previous round of CfD allocations just two years ago, demonstrating the rapid reduction in cost across the industry. With a massive capacity of 1,386 megawatts (MW), enough to power over 1.3 million UK homes, Hornsea Project Two will become the world’s biggest offshore wind farm, surpassing the giant 1,200MW Hornsea Project One which DONG Energy is currently constructing. Hornsea Project Two will be built 89 kilometres from the Yorkshire coast and is expected to be operational from 2022. Hornsea Project Two will contribute significantly to DONG Energy’s ambition of reaching a total offshore wind capacity of 11-12GW by 2025. Two DONG Energy offshore wind farms set to benefit from CWind expertise Chelmsford, Friday, 8th September. CWind, a leading provider of services to the offshore wind industry, announced today that it has been awarded a contract by DONG Energy, to install new and retrofit existing gates on the transition pieces (TPs) at the Gode Wind and Borkum Riffgrund offshore wind farms, located in the North Sea off the coast of Northern Germany. CWind, which is part of the Global Marine Group and delivers the Company’s power capabilities, will use its own crew transfer vessels, assets and engineering expertise to help ensure the project is completed successfully and on time. London, UK; September 8 2017: Global Maritime, a leading provider of offshore marine warranty, dynamic positioning and engineering services, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a number of leading Taiwanese organisations to develop closer cooperation on offshore wind technologies including marine warranty surveys, inspections and testing services. The signatories to the MOU with Global Maritime included Taiwan’s CR Classification Society (CR); the Metal Industries Research and Development Centre (MIRDC); the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research (TIER); the Taiwan Electric Research & Testing Center (TERTEC); and the Electronics Testing Center, Taiwan. Vattenfall to invest £150,000 a year in local causes for 20-year lifetime of EOWDC A community fund scheme aimed at generating lasting legacies for North-east communities is being created by the developer behind the region’s pioneering European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC). Swedish energy group Vattenfall is to establish a community investment scheme by investing £150,000 every year for the operational life of the more than £300m offshore wind test and demonstration centre. The EOWDC is expected to operate for 20-years which means the fund could be worth as much as £3mn over the lifetime of the project. Vattenfall’s EOWDC project director, Adam Ezzamel, said: “Vattenfall wants the EOWDC fund to support communities in Aberdeen and the Shire for the lifetime of the wind farm which is expected to be around 20 years. How a lasting legacy will secure best outcomes from the EOWDC fund will in large part be determined by those who are to benefit. That conversation with key local interests will start soon so that community investments can start next year.” As Scotland’s largest offshore wind test and demonstration centre, the ground-breaking 92.4MW, 11-turbine EOWDC will trial next generation technology and contribute significantly to driving down the cost of clean power.
